The Property Underwriting Supervisor will be the key individual for managing and developing the Property Underwriting team as well as providing technical guidance. In addition to daily management responsibilities to ensure profit and production goals are met, this position will identify trends and areas of opportunity based on company results and communicate these opportunities to the Property Product & Operations Manager. The Property Underwriting Supervisor will assist in the development of new products or product enhancements in all property lines and will work with the Company agencies for production and profitability. This position will provide excellent customer service to agents and policyholders, direct property underwriters to achieve departmental and Company goals and objectives and make decisions on exceptions referred from underwriters. The Property Underwriting Supervisor will work with Property Claims and the inspection vendors to develop a more efficient new business and reinspection process that leverages information from our inspection tool, the ability of field property adjusters to be involved in inspections during slower times of the year, and the best approach to gathering the data necessary to determine whether to remain on a risk based on all available information.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year College or University and 5+ years of industry experience
• Prior management experience with industry designations a plus
• Strong technical knowledge in Home/Dwelling Fire, and Umbrella required and Farm experience a plus
• Personal Lines experience required, Farm experience a plus
• Producers license required and Personal Lines product development experience a plus
• Strong attention to detail• Ability to make independent and cognizant decisions
• Excellent organizational, time management and analytical skills• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment
• Adapts well to changes
• Reviews applications, quotes, and changes to policies for possible action• Answers inquiries from agents, staff and customer service representatives regarding underwriting guidelines and procedures
• Provides technical and personnel support to direct reports• Gathers and analyzes background information
• Visits agents to discuss mutual issues and underwriting guidelines• Communicates with vendors and other associations
• Reviews reports regarding underwriting, billing and payments, inspections, valuations on homes and requests from other associations, including the Department(s) of Insurance
• Designs and completes project work to assist in achieving department goals and objectives
• Provides continuous coaching, feedback and guidance to the underwriters• Assists in the development, communication, and execution of underwriting strategy and initiatives• Monitors individual employee’s performance with feedback to the employee’s adherence to goals and expectations on a routine basis, with results communicated to the Property Product & Operations Manager
• Identifies trends and areas of opportunity based on company results
• Assists in the management of agent’s portfolios and profitability which includes analysis, recommendations, and monitoring of implementation of agreed upon improvements• Keeps informed regarding industry information, new product information, legislative changes, coverages and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance
• Prepares and provides various reports to senior level management as requested• Maintains effective relationships with agents, co-workers, and vendors that provide information necessary for the Underwriting processes
