Qualified candidate would be responsible for investigating, evaluating, and resolving casualty claims involving property damage and injuries of moderate to complex exposure, with minimal supervision. Candidate would also be handling litigated files and managing defense counsel through the litigation process.
· Bachelor’s degree
· Insurance Designation (AIC, etc) preferred
· 5years claims experience (2 years of prior casualty handling experience)
· Knowledge of casualty insurance policies (both auto and property)
· Knowledge of medical terminology
· Knowledge of Fair Claims Practice Act
· Knowledge of negligence laws of various states including statutes and vehicle codes
· Knowledge of generally accepted loss reserving practices
· Knowledge of litigation practices and principles, including management of defense counsel
· General knowledge of automobile mechanical and body repair methods
· General computer knowledge, including Word and Excel type programs
· Effective written and verbal communication skills
· Effective time management skills
· Experience in prioritizing, organizing, and making decisions
· Discretion and judgment in determining negligence and evaluation of fair value of claims
· Professional appearance and attitude
· Verifies coverage and identifies potential exposures and coverage issues
· Investigates facts surrounding claims and documents all investigations to include scene investigations, statements, diagrams, police reports, etc.
· Determines liability exposure and appropriate reserving
· Maintains active diary and reporting
· Reviews appraisals and medical information for settlements
· Identifies subrogation possibilities and handles salvage disposal
· Makes fair and equitable claim settlements within authority and requests approval from Manager for anything outside authority level
· Secures necessary Medicare and lien releases, etc.
· Manages litigated files and works with defense counsel
· Participates in the training and growth of less experienced adjusters
