Job Summary

Evaluates applications for insurance policies and assesses the degree of risk to the insurance company. Determines under what conditions the application will be accepted. Reviews policies for possible cancellation or non-renewal; reviews changes to policies in accordance with Company guidelines. Works with the Company agencies for production and profitability. Provides excellent customer service to agents and policyholders. Directs clerical support staff to achieve departmental and Company goals and objectives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or minimum of 2 years’ experience in Personal Lines Auto Underwriting
  • Knowledge of insurance rules, rating, and regulations
  • Good customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Current Producer’s License
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills
  • Proficient computer knowledge
  • Good math skills
  • Ability to travel to various Company activities and functions
  • Valid driver’s license

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Reviews applications, quotes and changes to policies for possible action
  • Works with agents for production and profitability
  • Answers inquiries from agents and customer service representatives regarding underwriting     guidelines and procedures
  • Provides customer service to policyholders
  • Provides technical and personnel support to Underwriting assistants
  • Gathers and analyzes background information
  • Visits agents to discuss mutual issues and underwriting risks
  • Communicates with vendors and other associations
  • Reviews reports regarding underwriting, billing and payments, and requests from other associations, including the Department of Insurance
  • Enters pertinent data into the system
  • Works in customer service rotation
  • As requested, works with the Claims Department, including giving depositions and attending court when necessary
  • Completes project work to assist in achieving department goals and objectives

salary range is $47,000 - $67,000
